The Company was founded in 1963 by Vitta and Peder Lysgaard. The aim was to establish a reliable supply for the Danish oil company Uno-X, which they were also founders and co-owners of. Through the years the Company has become a truly international Shipping Company and operates under the name and brand herning shipping a.s. The Head quarter in Herning, Denmark is supplemented by a subsidiary company in Singapore and in France. Today herning shipping a.s has a modern and sophisticated fleet at its disposal, which ensures that the Company remains at the forefront within its nice market.
Today Vitta Lysgaard and the Lysgaard family is the sole owner of herning shipping as. For about 20-years her son Knud Lysgaard was the Managing Director. After the death of Knud Lysgaard then Vitta Lysgaard took over the position in year 2000.
As of 1st February 2005 Vitta Lysgaard stepped down as Lars Vang Christensen was appointed Chief Executive Officer. After 25 years with the A. P. Møller – Mærsk Group Captain Lars Vang Christensen thus took responsibility of herning shipping a.s., whereupon Vitta Lysgaard consequently became Chairman of the board.
herning shipping a.s.'s first company owned vessel, a newbuilding, was launched in 1963. The fleet has since been expanded and renewed continuously and today herning shipping a.s. controls approximately 40 vessels all of which are of a size up to 13,000 deadweight tonnes.
The Company business portfolio also includes worldwide chartering of management tonnage as well as vessels on time-charter. The split between own vessels and time charter vessels is approximately 50/50.
Since 1995 herning shipping a.s. has been a co-owner of the ships agency office Arned Agencies b.v. in Rotterdam and in 1989 it was one of the co-founders of Royal Arctic Tankers A/S in Nuuk.
